MCDOWELL, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Crews were working to restore water service after a major water line break along US 70 in McDowell County Saturday morning.

Around 10:15 a.m., McDowell County Emergency Management issued an alert saying a major water line break occurred along US 70 East near Memorial Park Road.

At 12:11 p.m., the main water line had been repaired.

At 4 p.m., an advisory was issued alerting customers along US 70 East to boil their water vigorously for at least one minute.

City of Marion Water System Customers located on Beaman Road, Memorial Park Road, and US Hwy 70 (from Memorial Park Road to Hwy 126). The above listed consumers in the City of Marion Water System, in McDowell County, are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to a broken water main. Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water System.

Therefore, the Division of Water Resources advises that when water is restored consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, Washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

The advisory is in effect until further written notification.
