Coroner: Man drowns in Lake Hartwell after slipping from float

HART COUNTY, Ga. (FOX Carolina) -

The Hart County Coroner confirms a man drowned in Lake Hartwell Saturday afternoon after falling off of his float.

Per Coroner Mike Adams, 29-year-old Turio Blackwell from Lavonia and his girlfriend were sitting on a floats near a cove at the Rocky Ford Boat ramp when Blackwell slipped from his float and was unable to resurface.

Hart County EMS, the sheriff's office, DNR, the dive team, and the coroner's office responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m.

The dive team was able to locate Blackwell's body within 13 minutes in 8 to 10 feet of water.

The coroner said Blackwell was a non-swimmer.
