PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Pickens County coroner said an Easley teen has died after being ejected from a vehicle on SC 135 early Sunday morning in Pickens County.

Troopers say the teen was traveling south on Hwy 135 near Ripplelake Drive in Easley when she ran off the right side of the road, traveled down an embankment and struck a tree. She was then ejected from the vehicle, troopers say.

The wreck occurred at 12:30 a.m.

The driver was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

On Monday, Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the driver as 17-year-old Meghan Nicholson of Banks Road in Easley.

Kelley said Nicholson died from internal injuries.

Troopers said the teen was not wearing a seat belt when she crashed.

The Pickens County School District confirmed she was a rising senior at Pickens High School. He said school staff was made aware of the tragedy and can call on support services if needed for students.
