Troopers said two Rutherford County teens were killed in a crash Sunday evening.
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on Tanasee Gap Road.
Troopers said a pickup truck lost control in a curve, ran off the road, then back onto the road and overturned.
Two people were inside the truck’s cab and three others were riding in the truck bed.
Troopers said a passenger in the cab and a passenger in the truck bed both died from their injuries.
The victims were identified as Cole Owens and Austin Rhoden, both 15.
Owens was a rising 10th grader at Rosman High.
Rhoden had just graduated Brevard Middle and was scheduled to begin high school.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges had been filed as of Monday morning.
Troopers said passengers over age 12 can legally ride in the bed of a pickup truck in North Carolina.
