Greenville County emergency dispatchers said Gerald Thomas Wilcox has been found safe early Wednesday morning after going missing Tuesday evening.

They confirmed he was found around 1:45 a.m. in a retention pond on Haven Reach Way.

Emergency Dispatchers say the 87-year-old man was being checked out by EMS and being reunited with his family.

He was reported missing around 8:36 p.m. Tuesday from the 100 block of Boysenberry Drive.

Greenville County deputies said family reported that Wilcox went for a walk around 7:30 p.m. and never returned.

Deputies said Wilcox suffers from dementia.

Sheriff's office bloodhounds were called in to help search for the man.

Wilcox was reported to be in good condition and not injured when he was located.

Wilcox's grandson, Brad Detandt, sent a message to FOX Carolina on Facebook thanking everyone who helped search for Wilcox.

""Our family cannot begin to find the words to thank all the men and women who helped find him tonight," Detandt said.
