Greenville NAACP branch encouraging people to call senators, demand they oppose American Health Care Act

Posted: Updated:

The Greenville Branch of the NAACP is calling on its members in the Upstate to reach out to US Senators and demand they vote against the American Health Care Act.

“The Greenville Branch of the NAACP is outraged and plans to fight against the US Congress replacing the current Affordable Health Care Act with the American Health Care Act,” Lillian Brock Fleming stated in a news release.

Fleming said the American Health Care Act “works against everyone who needs it but it works for those who do not need it.”

The NAACP said the healthcare law will increase costs to the elderly with pre-existing conditions by five times and gives tax breaks to the wealthiest two percent of Americans.

The Senate vote is scheduled for Thursday but Fleming said concerned citizens should reach out to Senators Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham immediately.

“Tell them ‘Vote No on the AHCA when it comes to the Senate. It is bad for healthcare and bad for South Carolina,’” Fleming said. “Contact local organizations, churches and family. We cannot remain silent!”
