Gamecocks, Tigers, Watson nominated for 2017 ESPYs

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Clemson and South Carolina are representing the state in the nominations for the 2017 ESPY Awards.

The annual ceremony honors teams and individual athletes for their performances.

The South Carolina Gamecocks' Women's NCAA Basketball team, who won a national title in the 2016-2017 season, is nominated for the Best Team Award. The Clemson Tigers are also nominated for Best Team after winning the 2016 CFB National Championship.

Clemson and USC will face the Chicago Cubs, the Golden State Warriors, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New England Patriots and the U.S. Women's Gymnastics team for the award of Best Team.

The Clemson Tigers are also nominated for the Best Upset award after defeating Alabama in the National Championship.

Clemson graduation and newly-drafted Houston Texan Deshaun Watson is nominated for the Best Championship Performance award. He'll compete against Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, Kevin Durant in the NBA Finals and Shay Knighten in the Women's College World Series.
