GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville Zoo is welcoming two more babies! Officials said two Amur leopard cubs were born April 29 to Jade and Nelkan.

Jade is the zoo’s seven-year-old female and Nelkan is an 11-year-old male that was brought in from from Zoo Hoyerswerda in Berlin, Germany to serve as Jade’s mate as part of the Amur Leopard Species Survival Plan.

Jade has been at the Greenville Zoo since 2011. Nelkan arrived last November and began living with Jade in January.

The cubs are doing well but officials said they will not be on exhibit for some time. A video monitor has been installed at the leopard exhibit to allow guests to see the babies growing inside the leopard den in the meantime.

The cubs’ genders have not yet been determined.

The Amur leopard is only found in the Russian Far East and North East China. In 2007, only 19–26 wild Amur leopards were estimated to be living. Since then, zoo officials said that number has risen to at least 57.
