ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Asheville Police Department said Interstate 240 was shut down Thursday afternoon due to suspicious packages found on a bridge.

Officers said the two suspicious packages were found magnetized to the Haywood Road bridge around 12:45 p.m. by North Carolina Department of Transportation officials.

In order to investigate, police shut down I-240 east and westbound near Exit 2 at 1:30 p.m.

Just before 2:15 p.m., police said the devices were rendered safe and cleared from the bridge.

All lanes of traffic were reopened.
