Greenville man being held on 98 charges pleads guilty to federal crimes

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 24-year-old Greenville man entered a guilty plea in federal court to numerous crimes connected to a string of armed robberies and carjackings.

Trevis Lerell Bland, also known as "HellRell" and "Rell," admitted to two counts of Hobbs Act Robbery, three counts of carjacking, conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy to carry a firearm during a crime of violence, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to the Greenville County Detention Center, Bland faces 98 charges from arrests made by the Greenville Police Department, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office and the Probation and Parole Office. The charges include the following:

  • Attempted murder
  • Kidnapping
  • First-degree assault and battery
  • Grand larceny
  • Petit larceny
  • Armed robbery
  • Burglary
  • Pointing and presenting a firearm

Authorities said Bland conspired to rob the Crown Plaza in Greenville, planned to rob a man outside his home, robbed four victims at the Phoenix Inn, robbed a woman and stole her car, robbed the Spinx Gas Station on East Washington street, robbed a woman at gunpoint, robbed the Plez U store in Easley, and stole a man's car.

He carjacked two victims in April 2016 after asking for a ride. Bland, once they were driving, used a firearm to take control of the vehicle. Investigators said a woman in the car fought with Bland and was able to secure the firearm, firing multiple shots at him as he drove away.

Bland has not yet been sentenced. A U.S. District judge is reviewing the case.

For the guilty plea announced on Thursday, he faces a minimum of 25 years in prison but could be sentenced to life in prison.
