LIBERTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office said a man is in custody after a violent kidnapping case.

On Thursday around 7 p.m., deputies said 26-year-old Carl Benton Moore III was taken into custody.

According to deputies, the arrest was the result of an investigation into an incident on Pinedale Road.

Investigators said they were contacted by the family members of a female victim who said they had received a suspicious call from her. The woman, who is between age 25 and 30, was held captive inside her residence and received injuries from being throwing to the floor and choked.

Deputies said Moore forced the victim into a back room of the home and sexually assaulted her. He later allowed her to call a relative but monitored the call, deputies said.

The victim was able to use pre-established code words to indicate she was in danger and needed help. After being located, she was transported to the hospital for injuries.

Deputies said Moore is not a stranger to the victim but doesn't live at the same residence.

He was taken into custody and charged with kidnapping, first-degree domestic violence and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
