ENOREE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said a homeowner fired shots at a burglar inside his home Saturday night.

Deputies said they responded to the 11000 block of Hwy 56 in Spartanburg County for reports of a burglary. While en route, dispatchers told deputies that the victim had fired two rounds at a suspect inside the residence, and wasn't sure if he had shot the suspect.

Upon arrival, the victim told deputies he'd stepped out of the house onto his porch to smoke a cigarette, leaving the door open so he could hear his baby sleeping inside. The victim said while on the porch, he heard a loud noise from inside the home, and went back inside, grabbing a pistol.

The victim told deputies he saw the bathroom door open and yelled, "If anyone is in here, come out," before shooting into the bathroom.

An unknown suspect then emerged from the bathroom, according to the victim, and ran towards the back of the home as the victim fired more shots at the suspect, who then disappeared.

Deputies said during an inspection of the residence, they found a bedroom window on the back right side of the home open. The victim told deputies the window had been closed before he went outside to smoke his cigarette.

Deputies said they also located a bullet hole in the home's bathroom door, leading into the bathroom wall, and one shell casing located in the hallway. Outside the residence, deputies said a small bush beside the residence had been pushed over, but there was no sign of the suspect being struck by the fired rounds.

A K-9 officer responded to assist with the investigation.
