MORGANTON, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Justin Sullivan, who was 19 years old when he was arrested for attempting to provide support to terrorist group ISIS, was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday.

Sullivan, now 21, pleaded guilty in November to attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries. He admitted in court to planning massing shootings in North Carolina and Virginia.

He appeared in federal court in Asheville for sentencing at 9 a.m. where he was sentenced to life in the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

During the sentencing hearing, Sullivan said claims that he is a "cold-blooded killer" were a "total lie."

"You can't judge me if you don't know me," Sullivan said. "I'm not a bad person."

According to the Associated Press, indictments indicate Sullivan used social media to communicate with Junaid Hussain, an ISIS hacker, in June 2015 about making a video of a terrorist attack.

Sullivan, after converting to Islam, began watching violent ISIS attacks and beheadings online. Agents said he had "elaborate plans to kill hundreds of innocent people to show his support for the terrorist organization."

He allegedly began destroying religious items in his parents' home and research how to manufacture firearm silencers.

Sullivan was arrested after asking an undercover FBI agent to build assault rifle silencers they could use to carry out attacks at large venues. He also offered to pay the undercover agent to kill his parents, believing they would stop him from committing the attack.

During the investigation, special agents said they uncovered a connection between Sullivan and the murder of his 74-year-old neighbor, John Bailey Clark. He was later charged with murder in the case.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the murder trial.
