SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

On Monday, Spartanburg City Council passed a resolution to "ban the box."

The decision removes a question regarding criminal history from City of Spartanburg employment applications.

Applicants still have to undergo a background check but the decision allows them to progress further in the hiring process before answering questions about their past.

Human resources director of the city of Spartanburg Michele Clyburn presented the resolution at Monday's city council meeting.

Mayor Junie White spoke out in support of the resolution.
