SYLVA, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A short road leading to the front of the historic Jackson County Courthouse in Sylva will be closed for at least two days, according to North Carolina Department of Transportation.

NCDOT said the road leading to the front steps of the courthouse will be closed as a maintenance crew repairs a broken pipe under Keener Street between West Main Street and Mill Street.

At this time, traffic is being rerouted around the closure with the assistance of signs and flaggers, directing drivers.

Initial plans to fix the pipe began Monday, including the digging of a trench around the pipe so crews could cut out the old pipe and replace it.

Crew members are also working with Tuskaseigee Water and Sewer on the repairs.

NCDOT said work should conclude on Thursday.
