SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg Police Department said a man fled being detained by an officer early Wednesday morning following a disturbance with a weapon.

Police were called to a building on Camelot Drive just before 4 a.m. after a caller reported a man pointing a gun. When an officer arrived on scene, he said he saw a man near a vehicle in the parking lot matching the description received in the call.

The officer said he drew his gun and asked the man to show his hands, but when a woman with a small child stepped beside him, the officer holstered his weapon.

According to the incident report, the officer then drew his Taser and told the woman to step back, but she wouldn't. The man is accused of trying to grab the baby during the incident.

The officer said he was finally able to step between the woman with the baby and the man and, when the man refused orders to get on the ground, he deployed his Taser.

The report states that when the officer tried to handcuff the man, there was a struggle and the man was able to get up and run away.

He fled into the woods before getting into a vehicle and speeding off.

The woman on scene was detained for interfering with the incident and giving a false name for the man involved in the incident, but later released, the report states.
