NEWBERRY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A new manufacturing facility opening in Newberry County is expected to create nearly 1,000 new jobs over the next three years.

The South Carolina Department of Commerce announced technology company Samsung is opening appliance manufacturing facility on Mawsons Way. The new operations will occupy the former Caterpillar facility.

Officials said the $380 million facility will produce appliances and create more than 950 new jobs.

"Samsung's decision to invest in South Carolina and create nearly 1,000 new jobs here is one that will change the very fabric of the Newberry community," said Governor Henry McMaster. "We are excited to know that Samsung will now be an important partner in ushering in an unprecedented period of economic growth and prosperity in our state."
