CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

On Wednesday, GE Renewable Energy announced it is investing $29 million in a new research and development facility in Clinton.

The new facility, which will be located on Highway 72, will be used to test prototype bearing designs and research bearing technology for Onshore Wind.

It is expected to be operational by the end of 2017, officials said.

The president and CEO of GE's Onshore Wind business said South Carolina's highly-skilled work force and proximity to other facilities make it an ideal research location.

The new location is expected to bring 17 jobs to Laurens County.

“Another great investment in Laurens County," said Laurens County Council Chair Joseph Wood. "Many people with great ideas and looking to the future to make this happen. Laurens County welcomes you.”
