On Wednesday the District Attorney's Office announced a man who stole a woman's car and threatened her life was convicted and sentenced. The victim, however, never got to see justice served.

On Oct. 15, 2016, investigators said Jonathan Antonio Richardson and Erin Lashea Hogsed stole a woman's car at a Pisgah Forest convenience store. Hogsed is accused of asking the Hendersonville woman for a ride while Richardson let himself into the back seat of her truck.

Investigators said the pair ordered the woman to drive them to Heath Drive, at which time Richardson held a "rough shaped object" to her through and said "if you do not cooperate, you will die."

The victim was later forced out of the car and had to flag down another motorist for help. The suspects fled in the stolen vehicle, deputies said.

Using phone and social media records, authorities located Richardson and Hogshed 10 days later at Harrah's Casino in San Diego, California.

The District Attorney's Office said the victim, later identified as Christine Hampton, was suffering from cancer at the time of the crime and died in early 2017. The jury was played an interview tape of her discussing the incident.

"I had the honor of meeting Ms. Hampton before she died and she expressed to me her appreciation for how capably the investigation was conducted," said District Attorney Greg Newman.

Richardson was sentenced to 108 months in prison after being convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
