DHEC: Upstate Belk employee diagnosed with tuberculosis

Posted: Updated:
JONESVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Department of Health and Environmental Control confirmed a contact investigation is ongoing after an Upstate retail employee was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) disease.

The individual diagnosed is an employee of Belk Distribution Center in Jonesville. DHEC said it is working with Belk to determine if any staff are at risk for infection.

TB is diagnosed through a blood or tuberculin skin test and can be treated with antibiotics. Testing and antibiotics will be free to employees at Belk who were possibly exposed.

DHEC said anyone with a bad cough persistent for weeks, chest pain or coughing up blood or sputum should seek medical care immediately.
