Greenville Humane Society in need of help during summer uptick

Posted: Updated:

Once summer finally kicks into full gear, business picks up at the Greenville Humane Society.

Hayley Mazanec has worked at the humane society for about 3 years.

"Very busy,” explained Mazanec. “Hard to get a second to breathe! "

Julia Brunelle with the humane society says it takes more than just monetary donations to keep up with the influx of animals and foot traffic. She says with kitten and puppy season picking up, they go through canned food quickly.

"We need newspaper, cat litter. The need for those things really increases during the summer,” explained Brunelle.

Brunelle added they are in need of towels and baby socks.

"Those are actually for our kittens and small puppies in surgery,” explained Brunelle. “Because it's very hard to regulate their temperature when they're under anesthesia."

They also need volunteers and foster parents.

"We supply everything they need,” said Brunelle, “So medications, crate, litterboxes, newspaper, the food. Everything that they need."

Mazanec says they're grateful for all the help the public already provides the Humane Society. They can't successfully operate without further assistance.

"Very appreciative. We run out of stuff all the time. Recently we ran out of hand soap and that’s necessary,” said Mazanec. “If we didn't have donations, we would not be able to run."
