ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

On Thursday an Upstate man pleaded guilty but mentally in Anderson General Session Court to domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Kwan Raylee Fowler, 34, was arrested after a woman was set on fire in April 2016.

Deputies were called to a domestic dispute on Pocalla Way where they found the Fowler's girlfriend with large burns to her body, neck and hair. The victim said after several hours of arguing with Fowler, he sprayed lighter fluid on her and set her fire.

The incident occurred in front of two children.

The victim was able to climb out of a window and flee to a relative's house for help. She was taken to AnMed Medical Center and later transferred to the Augusta Burn Center.

Solicitor David Wagner said the victim continues to receive treatment for pain and scarring.

A total of four children were inside the home during the incident and police said they were locked in two bedrooms before the victim fled the home. When she was running to get help, she said she saw Fowler driving away from the home.

Investigators said he later showed up at St. Francis Hospital where he was arrested. He said he did not know how or why he was at the hospital.

Wagner said Fowler is a "serious danger to the community."

He was sentenced to 20 years in prison suspended to 15 years with five years probation.
