From emergency rooms, to the doors of a church, victims of human trafficking walk among us. A couple Upstate churches are learning the warning signs.

"The problem is real," Jane McGahee said.

She wanted to go to First Baptist Greenville where pastors, nurses and investigators talked trafficking.

"They're real human beings that are hurting and they may be sitting in our church pews, they may be living across the street form us," McGahee said.

Last year, she and church members from Lee Road United Methodist Church in Taylors started prayer service and forums for victims
and advocates of human trafficking.

"Within the prayer service, we felt the importance of helping the community become aware of human trafficking," she said.

Investigators say more forums like this one are needed to track trafficking.

"I would say that we see weekly at least one if not multiple girls that raise our awareness," Neely Wright said.

She's a forensic nurse with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.

"If you dig a little deeper and ask them some more questions, you find that they're actually a victim of something else going on," Wright said.

She shared warning signs of victims, like specific tattoos, and complaints from patients who could be potential victims who talk about pain in the pelvic area.

Erica King, is a continuing education coordinator with Bon Secours Saint Francis Health System who believes in sharing information about human trafficking.

"Now, that it's in our backyard we've outreached to the ER nurses, and the ER physicians," said King. "The sisters at Bon Secours are committed to eradicating the human trafficking that is going on."

Now, this group can share the information too.
