ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies have confirmed that the Anderson County Sheriff's Office has received several calls and messages in reference to young men going door-to-door selling Bible-related materials in the area.

Some residents claimed the young men are on the sex offender registry and others suggested the men are operating with ill-intent, deputies confirmed.

For verification, deputies reached out to Varsity Internship Program, the organization sponsoring the activities of the young men, and confirmed with them that the young men are selling Bible In Stories to families, door-to-door. Organization officials confirmed that the men are taking orders for later delivery while earning money to help with their college tuition.

Deputies said the organization verified the identity of each program participant and sent the Sheriff's Office photos of the individuals and their vehicles. The Sheriff's Office verified that none of the young men are on the local or national sex offender registry.

The Sheriff's Office stresses that they do not endorse the products being sold, but they do want wan the public to know they are aware of the young men and their activity.
