GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Travelers Rest man was killed after a car crashed into a creek Saturday evening, according to the Greenville County Coroner.

Coroner Jeff Fowler said the car went down an embankment and into a small creek.

The incident happened at 2109 Poinsett Highway.

The coroner said 50-year-old Larry Gene Banks Jr. of Pine Hill Drive was killed in the crash.

According to the coroner, Banks had been traveling north on Poinsett Highway in an SUV when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled through the front yard of a residence before entering a creek.

The coroner said no one witnessed the crash, and that the victim's vehicle was noticed by another vehicle traveling on Poinsett Highway Saturday evening.

The case remains under investigation by the Greenville County Coroner's Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
