ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Asheville Police Department was called to the scene of a suspicious package reported on Wednesday morning.

Officers said around 11:30 a.m., a maintenance worker spotted the package at 15 Woodfin Street.

Police evacuated the property, which is owned by the Housing Authority, and traffic has been blocked on Woodfin Street near Broadway. These actions were a safety precaution, officers said.

The Asheville Police Department's hazardous device team was on scene and determined the package was not explosive, but said it was made to look like an explosive device.

Fire and HAZMAT crews were on scene wrapping up the investigation just after 2:15 p.m. and the road was reopened.

On Thursday, police said it was determined the package was actually a pipe.

Officers said the investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
