GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Humane Society of Greenwood has a message for the community.

The agency made a post on their Facebook page after they said they took in a significantly high number of animals on Friday, both strays and those given up for adoption by owners.

According to the post, dogs are being temporarily housed in the kitchen, bathroom, storage room and on the sidewalk, due to so many coming in to the shelter recently.

They ask that pet owners and those who bring in strays to the shelter explore all options before bringing them in. While the shelter is working to save more animals every day, when the cages are full and more animals are streaming in, they are forced to make hard decisions.

"We will have a 'no-kill' shelter when we have a 'no-kill' minded community," read the post.

The agency needs your help to keep these pets alive.

The Humane Society of Greenwood will also be at PetSmart in Greenwood on Saturday with adoptable dogs and cats.
