GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Coroner's Office is investigating after a man's body was pulled from a pool at a retirement home on Monday.

The coroner's office said 87-year-old Marion Hare was a resident of Swansgate Community on Swansgate Place. Hare reportedly told his family he was going to the pool to exercise.

The coroner said a passerby noticed Hare face down in the water around 2:30 p.m. The bystander jumped in the water to help the victim and CPR was initiated, but the coroner said Hare was pronounced deceased.

An investigation is underway by the coroner's office and the Greenville City Police Department.

Hare's cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy on Tuesday.
