WESTMINSTER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said a Westminster man was charged with forgery after he deposited thousands of dollars into his bank account using checks stolen from a home during a burglary.

Deputies said 39-year-old Terry Richard Gassaway of Blackjack Road was arrested on four counts of Forgery.

Deputies said the investigation began after two burglaries were reported at a home and outbuilding on Chandelier Court on April 1 and April 3.

Checks were stolen in one of the burglaries and investigators learned that withdrawals that the victim did not authorize had been made using the checks. They determined that in May, Gassaway deposited four checks into his account, totaling 3,222.92.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing.
