Steel company brings $14M investment, new jobs to Cherokee Co.

BLACKSBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Department of Commerce announced a steel galvanizing company is bring a new facility to the Upstate.

Steel Creek Galvanizing Company is expected to construct a new 82,000 square-foot location on Tribal Road in Blacksburg. The company said they use an environmentally-friendly hot dip galvanizing technique to protect fabricated steel products from rust and corrosion.

The new development is expected to bring a $14.1 million investment and create at least 72 new jobs. Hiring is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2018.

"After an exhaustive search for an ideal location, we are pleased to announce that we have found it in Cherokee County," said Steel Creek president Jim Mack. "The assistance and cooperation of state, county and local officials has been outstanding, and we look forward to beginning construction soon."
