GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is warning the community about a recent scam involving suspects going door-to-door and pretending to be firefighters.

Deputies said the suspects are pretending to represent various fire departments in the county including Duncan Chapel and Piedmont Park Fire Department. They're accused of requesting to gain access to citizens' homes by asking to check their smoke detectors.

The Greenville County Fire Chief's Association confirmed no members of their departments are going door-to-door conducting smoke detector tests.

The suspects were described as males in their mid-20s with blue t-shirts and cargo pants. Deputies released surveillance images of a suspect vehicle in at least one of the incidents, a red truck.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
