GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Inside the minds of little ones is a world of wonder. It's why Anne Moody became a childcare teacher.

"It's just a great experience to have a small part in molding some younger people," Moody said.

She teaches in the 2-year-old room at Little Me Academy in Greer. It's also where parents pick up their children and drop off canned goods.

"It gives parents an opportunity from here to teach their kids about giving back too," Moody said.

The idea behind the donations all started with a birthday gift.

"Thank you," Ivey Tapp said as she was wished a happy belated birthday.

She says she's a big girl and even if she doesn't realize it, at the age of six, she's touched the lives of people she's never even met by collecting canned goods for her birthday.

It's all "for the people who don't have any food," Ivey said.

Before Ivey and her family knew it, her birthday celebration had grown.

"Well me and my mom were like 'Oh my gosh there's just so many,'" she said.

Her name would become something special in Greer. The idea started when Ivey turned a year old.

"Just decided at that time there wasn't much a baby or one-year-old needed to play with," Stacy Tapp said.

Since then Stacy Tapp, Ivey's mother decided every year they would collect gifts for her daughter's birthday.

"We had no idea what was going to become of it," Tapp said.

Through the years they got more and more donations, and now there's a room full of canned goods. The food will be donated to Greer Community Ministries.

"We got home one day and there were cases of green beans on our front porch," Tapp said.

However, she says the best gift of all is watching Ivey grow.

"Just to look at her and see there is so much hope and goodness in this world- especially in this community," Tapp said.

Ivey's had some great birthdays, but she says this one might be her greatest.

She'll stop at Little Me Academy, one of 12 donation drop-off spots, to receive her canned goods, but she will leave the gift of giving with those who learn and teach there.
