Greenville police: 2 men arrested after fight near downtown fountain

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police said two men were arrested after a fight broke out at a fountain along South Main Street in downtown Greenville early Wednesday morning.

Police said a couple was arguing near the fountain when three men walking by began shouting “Roll tide.”

The male who was arguing with his girlfriend told the men to move along, but police said the group continued yelling “roll tide” until one of the man broke apart from the group went over and grabbed the boyfriend by the throat, slapped him, and pushed him backwards over the fountain.

Police said another man then tired to punch the boyfriend but the girlfriend stepped between them and was hit by the punch.

The suspects were identified as Adam Hamm, 31, and Darnell Hunt, 35.

Both Hamm and Hunt were charged with assault and battery third degree.
