RALEIGH, NC (FOX Carolina) -

North Carolina is mourning the deaths of 16 military service members killed in the deadliest Marine crash since 2005.

On Monday, a Marine KC-130 transport aircraft corkscrewed into the ground in Mississippi, killing all Marines and a Navy corpsman who were on board. The flight originated out of Cherry Point, NC and seven of the victims were from the 2d Marine Raider Battalion in Camp Lejeune.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered flags on Wednesday be lowered to half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset in honor of the service members killed in the crash.

Their names have not been released yet.
