WELLFORD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The former police chief of Wellford is facing 10 charges connected to the filling of unauthorized prescriptions.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control confirmed 48-year-old Timothy Alexander was arrested on five counts of MDP other in Schedule I, II or III controlled substance and five counts of violation of drug distribution laws.

According to the arrest warrants, Alexander is accused of conspiring with a woman to obtain unauthorized Percocet prescriptions from pharmacies in Woodruff and Spartanburg. Below are the dates of the incidents, according to the warrants:

  • January 14 - Rite Aid #11606 on North Main Street in Woodruff
  • January 27 - Rite Aid #11595 on North Pine Street in Spartanburg
  • February 16 - Rite Aid #11606 on North Main Street in Woodruff
  • March 6 - Rite Aid #11606 on North Main Street in Woodruff
  • March 21 - Rite Aide #11606 on North Main Street in Woodruff

FOX Carolina spoke to Alexander who said a woman wrote the prescriptions for him because he ran out of medication, which he said he has needed for 10 years.

Alexander said he has no prior criminal record and has been wanted to get off Percocet for awhile. He said the woman has helped him by lowering the dose of the medication, he said.

Alexander said he feels like the charges lead people to think he made or sold drugs, but said he didn't mean any wrongdoing.

The woman who wrote the prescriptions does not work for the same doctor's office where he first obtained his medication for Percocet, he said.

Alexander resigned from the Wellford Police Department in February 2017 after a decade with the department.
