PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The City of Pickens said a groundbreaking ceremony will be held Friday at the site of the Pickens Doodle Park on Friday.

The park will be built at 124 Railroad Street in the Doodle Trail parking lot in Pickens.

The Doodle trail is a 7.5-mile trail connecting the cities of Easley and Pickens along the former Doodle rail line, which was taken out of service in 2013.

The City of Pickens said several grants have been awarded to aid in the revitalization efforts happening at the trail head, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Clean-up Grant, South Carolina Recreational Trails Program, South Carolina Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant Program, and the Appalachian Regional Commission.
