GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County deputies said two people died, one as as a result of an officer-involved shooting on July 14.

The shooting took place along White Horse Road and Lily street just before 4:30 p.m.  Sheriff Will Lewis said the incident occurred as two separate shooting incidents, one of which led to a deputy being forced to fire.

The first incident involved a man with a gun chasing a woman, deputies say.  Deputies responded to that initial incident and located the subject with the gun and confronted him, that's when the second shooting happened involving a deputy.

Lewis said no officers were injured in the shooting, and asked for prayers for everyone involved.

SLED is now handling the investigation, which is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting.

While the investigation was taking place, authorities closed off White Horse Road near Lily Street.  Motorists in the area were being detoured down Burdine Drive.

Many who live in the area said they've never seen all six lanes of traffic blocked off for an investigation before.

"I came down the road and I knew something was bad because I ain't ever seen the road blocked like that," said Jerry Neubia.

The scene was also blocking off several businesses. Many were forced to shut down early because customers could not access them.

White Horse Road was reopened around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

The coroner said late Friday that a woman had been in an altercation with a man near Lilly Street and White Horse Road around 4:35 p.m. As the woman ran across 6710 White Horse Road, the coroner said that the man shot her.

According to the coroner, responding deputies confronted the man and the man then began shooting at the deputies. The coroner said deputies returned fire, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:28 p.m.

The coroner identified the woman as 25-year-old Candy Esther Rosario of Greenville. Her cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner said. Her manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The coroner said the man was 34-year-old Ramiro Bravo Ramirez of Greenville. Autopsy results are pending.

This incident remains under investigation by SLED, Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the Greenville County Coroner's Office.

On Thursday, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office released 911 calls from the case, which were made by a friend of Rosario.

In the call, the woman can be heard telling dispatchers, "She came running, screaming, 'hurry, hurry, hurry, please. He's shooting me'."

The caller also describes the Ramirez "shooting at cars everywhere" and raising a firearm at officers.
