Storms leave damage across western North Carolina

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Thunderstorms have been sweeping across western North Carolina Friday afternoon, leaving behind some damage.

Buncombe County Emergency Management reported multiple trees and power lines down near Charlotte Highway.

Storm damage was also reported in McDowell County. Dispatchers said a downed tree caused traffic congestion along NC 226 near Coxes Creek Church Road.

West Asheville residents said a large tree was down on Talmadge Street in the area as well. The street was closed as crews worked to remove it from the roadway.
