Police: Driver jumped in river after crash to avoid arrest

WOODFIN, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Woodfin police said a man jumped into the French Broad River to try and avoid being arrested after a hit-and-run crash on Friday evening.

Police said the crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Broadway Street. Witnesses told police one of the drivers involved had jumped into the French Broad River to get away.

Police said officers later identified the suspect as 29-year-old Cow McMillan of Asheville.

McMillan was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, hit and run, and resisting a public officer.

No one was hurt in the crash.
