SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies said a man was arrested Monday morning after he was accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend Sunday night.

The 18-year-old victim told deputies she had purchased a pregnancy test earlier in the day on Sunday and it showed positive results, according to incident reports.

The victim said she told 31-year-old Santos Garcia the news when he returned home around 11 p.m. Garcia became irate upon hearing the news, the victim said, and broke her cell phone when she attempted to call her mother to pick her up.

Garcia, she said, then pushed her onto the bed and hit her repeatedly in the stomach, stating that he was going to kill the baby. The attack also included blows to the victim’s back and right eye.

The victim was eventually able to flee to a neighbor’s house, where she told deputies she called her mother and then 911.

The victim and the suspect have a one-year-old child in common who was at the home on Edna drive when the attack occurred, deputies said.

Garcia was arrested Monday morning and charged with domestic violence high and aggravated.
