GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Construction is expected to begin in the fall for a new three and a half acre park in Gaffney.

On Monday, city council voted to purchase the former Broad River Baptist administrative building on Railroad Avenue to create additional space for the project and house bathrooms.

The park, which is the city's ninth, is set to include green space, an amphitheater and a walking trail.

Design plans are underway with the project going to bid within the next two months.

Officials expected the new park to be completed by April or May 2018.
