SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies say they arrested two individuals in connection to a strong-arm robbery and kidnapping on the Fourth of July.

Deputies say Bradley Fowler, 27, and Tammy Smith, 31, are behind bars at the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly kidnapping a man and robbing him of all the cash he had on him and his cell phone.

Per investigators, Fowler and Smith along with a third individual walked to the home of the victim located on Martin Street to ask him for a ride to a hotel around 5 p.m. The victim agreed to drive them, but while driving he was told to turn down a small, dead end road, deputies continued.

At that point, Fowler began hitting the man in the back of the head and asked him for his money, deputies say. The victim gave him the $10 he had in his pocket, got out of the vehicle and a third subject got into the driver’s seat, the incident report continues.

Fowler then forced the victim back into the car and drove back to the victim’s home where Fowler allegedly said they were going to get more money from him, deputies say. Once there, Fowler grabbed a shovel and went into the residence followed by Smith.

Deputies say, once inside Fowler became involved in a scuffle with the victim’s roommate and began pressing the shovel up against the roommate’s neck. Eventually, the roommate was able to gain control of the shovel and Smith and Fowler ran out of the residence, got in the vehicle and left, deputies report.

In total, the victim said the subjects stole $10 from him and his cell phone, which was in the car. He also suffered a red left eye and a swollen area on the back of his neck. His roommate had a swollen and bruised left eye from where he said Fowler punched him in the face before leaving the residence.

Deputies were notified of the incident and Fowler and Smith were located and charged with the following:

  • Grand larceny
  • Armed robbery
  • Kidnapping
  • Strong arm robbery
  • Second degree violent burglary

Fowler was additionally charged with second degree assault and battery.
