GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The controversial plan to build a new grocery store on Woodruff Road passed its third and final reading on Tuesday.

The Greenville County Council met Tuesday evening and approved the third reading 7-5. The approval allows for the area to be rezoned and for Sprouts Grocery Store to begin building plans.

Council members called this plan one of the most controversial and vicious agenda items they've ever voted on. Some even alleged that they have received personal attacks from both sides because of this issue.

Developers say they would like to start building Sprouts Grocery Store in August. It will be located on the coroner of Woodruff Road and Highway 14.
