SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate woman was arrested and charged with four counts of child neglect after deputies say the home she and her children were living in was in “deplorable” condition.

Deputies say they responded to a home on the 3500 block of Highway 56 in Spartanburg on July 13 in reference to a welfare check. When they arrived on scene, investigators say they determined the home was in deplorable condition.

The resident of the home, 53-year-old Susan Kifer of Spartanburg, was taken into custody and charged with four counts of child neglect.

Kifer had custody of the minor children who were staying in the home, deputies confirm.

The Department of Social Services was contacted about the incident.

No further details were released.
