USC QB Bentley named to Davey O’Brien Watch List

COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

University of South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley has been named to the Davey O’Brien Watch List, the university announced on Wednesday.

The Davey O’Brien award recognizes the nation’s top collegiate quarterback each year.

Bentley, a sophomore from Opelika, Ala., is one of 30 college players in the running for the award.

Bentley threw for 1,420 yards and nine touchdowns in his freshman year, and only played half the season.

Sixteen semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien award will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 7.  That list will then be whittled down to three names and 2017 Davey O’Brien Award winner will be announced live Thursday, Dec. 7 on The Home Depot College Football Awards.
