GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Wednesday was quite the welcome home party for Greenville native and Olympian pole vaulter Sandi Morris.

"I get to do competitions all over the world but this is going to be the first time that I'm jumping in the Greenville area since high school,” said Morris. “I graduated in 2010."

She, along with more than a dozen of the country’s top pole vaulters and long jumpers, competed in downtown Greenville for the Liberty Bridge Jump Off on Wednesday.

In honor of her return home, she was made an honorary member of the Greenville Track Club. Morris was presented with a plaque and uniform.

"I think it's really great,” explained Bill Keesling with GTC. “It's always good when hometown athletes come back home and do something like this."

The friendly American Track League sanctioned event ended on a high note for Morris - the hometown hero walked away as winner. She hopes some younger fans walked away inspired by her sport.

"It's definitely growing and I want to be a part of that growth because it's a great sport,” said Morris. “There are so many athletes out there who are suited for it but they never discover the vault. I'm very excited to be a part of that."
