LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Laurens County Public Library will host a community blood drive with The Blood Connection on Thursday.

The library said they are asking for at least 20 people to donate between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the main branch location at 1017 West Main Street in Laurens.

"Hosting a blood drive coincides with Laurens Library's core values of giving back to the community," Jamie Lambert, Electronic Resources Librarian stated in a news release. "With a simple blood donation, we have the ability to help save the life of someone who could be a coworker, loved one or neighbor."

Lambert said all blood types are needed, especially O negative, B negative and A negative.

According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.

The Blood Connection will be providing a free beach towel to everyone who donates, the library said.
