GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Karate has been a way of life for Tyler Hudson, even if it began by accident when she got in the wrong line at an Upstate recreational center.

"I was supposed to go to a dance class and went to the bathroom or something,” explained Hudson, “When I got back in line, I had gotten in the wrong line, I ended up in the wrong line and I went to Karate."

Twenty years and numerous national championships later, the 25-year-old is still at it. It's no accident she’s waiting for her moment to compete again at this weekend's USA Karate Championships team trial.

"I've won this tournament before in the past,” said Hudson, “I'm very excited because I have a family now."

Her training got put on hold though when she got pregnant in early 2016. She couldn't spar or even work out until six weeks after she gave birth to her son, Warrior, in December.

Now he follows her everywhere. Along with their son Demetrious, who she and her husband recently adopted.

"I have a daycare that I take him to then I go and workout,” said Hudson, “Then I take him with me at night to Karate and we train for about two to three hours."

Her training partner, Sabrina Martinez said it has been incredible to watch Hudson juggle karate and motherhood together.

"She's definitely an inspiration,” said Martinez, “She had her baby and got right back at it. She's a great mom and great athlete too."

Martinez will compete Friday while Hudson prepares for her bouts Saturday.

Hudson says she couldn’t have done it without people like Martinez and others at her dojo.

"Everyone kind of pitches in for me,” said Hudson. “They hold him why I do Karate. They hold him all night at the Dojo. Even if it's a couple hours. They'll hold him all day Saturday for me."
