SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police are investigating a reported carjacking that ended in a crash in the Dorman Centre shopping mall parking lot on Friday morning.

Police said Home Depot’s surveillance cameras caught the crash on video and showed the driver, a man, running off.

The victim told police he had parked his car in the Pier One Imports parking lot and got out to urinate, per incident reports. While this was happening, he said another man jumped in the driver’s side of the car. The victim said he got back in the passenger side of the car and wrestled with the suspect as he tried to drive the car away.

The possible carjacking attempt ended when the car crashed into the sign for a handicapped parking space.

Police said the victim claimed not to know the suspect.
