LANDRUM, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Landrum Police Department is reminding the community not to approach bears after receiving reports that a bear had been spotted in town on Friday.

The bear was spotted in a tree off Highway 14 near the Wells Fargo. Police taped off the area. Viewers shared photos with us.

Police ask people to be sure and report sightings but not to get close to bears, even if the animals are in trees.

“We are understanding that if you leave them be most of the time they will return from where they came from,” police said on Facebook. “So, remember it is exciting to see them, but it is also very dangerous.”
